For most of its existence, Apple’s streaming service seemed to focus on quality over quantity, offering great shows but often feeling barren compared to competitors like Netflix and Disney. But as Apple TV looks to expand its reach to reach a larger audience, the “quantity” part of that equation seems to be being addressed to some extent. Fresh returning series with detailed details Ted Lasso and SugarApple just announced a flurry of titles that will be streaming this year.
Here’s everything Apple announced or detailed yesterday:
Oh and season 2 Monarch: Legacy of Monsters got a new trailer that gives a look at his big new kaiju:
That’s something new almost every month and it’s on top of previously known titles coming this year like new seasons criminal record, Your friends and neighbors, For all mankindand The last thing he said to mealong with currently streaming shows including Kidnapping, God’s dropsand Downsizing. Apple TV is also making a bigger push into live sports with moves like a deal with Formula 1 starting this year. (Conspicuously absent from these lists: just what the hell is going on Scholar?)
Since one of the lingering complaints about the Apple TV is the lack of things to watch, which is probably one of the reasons it’s so far behind its streaming competitors, this announcement table seems designed specifically to address that. However, the lineup raises questions about whether Apple can maintain the level of quality expected of it with so many projects. Matchbox: The Movie does not raise much hope; Apple’s movie offerings have always been a step or two behind its TV shows.
