Apple may add third-party chatbots to CarPlay

CarPlay could soon support more than just Siri as Apple explores a broader approach for third-party voice tools.

It looks like Apple is getting ready to allow third-party chatbots on CarPlay. This would allow users to query voice chatbots directly through the CarPlay interface.

Until now, Apple has omitted voice assistants outside of CarPlay, with the exception of its first-party assistant, Siri. However, with the slow rollout of the new, more personal Siri, Apple may feel pressure to give its users options.

Ace Bloomberg points out that there is no specific time frame for the rollout. Sources suggested it could be “in the coming months”.

Reportedly, the feature will still be subject to some predictable limitations.

Users will not be able to replace the Siri button or change the wake word. They will need to open the app to activate third-party voice control.

While users could use AI apps on the iPhone and converse through the car’s built-in speakerphone, the experience wasn’t ideal. The integration, if developers choose to use it, should make for a better experience.
