Jony Ive’s Ferrari interior may be a glimpse of the Apple Car

Jony Ive would do years of work on the interior design of the Apple Car before the project was finally abandoned. While we’ll almost certainly never see these designs, the new electric Ferrari may provide a good clue when it comes to interior aesthetics.

The cockpit of the upcoming Ferrari Luce has been designed by Ives’ consultancy Lovefrom and is likely to reflect a number of elements we might expect to see in an Apple car…

Several tech sites got a design tour from Apple’s former head of design Engadget’s Tim Stevens points out similarities in design language.

If you’re familiar with the designs Apple produced during Ive’s tenure, especially in the era starting with the iPhone 4, you’ll feel right at home here. The overall aesthetic is dominated by squirrels and circles, all with absolute, minute perfection and symmetry (…)

Scattered throughout the cockpit are 40 odd pieces of Corning Gorilla Glass, everything from the shifter bezel to the slightly bulging lenses in the instrument cluster. What isn’t glass is aluminum, much of it anodized in your choice of three colors: gray, dark gray, and rose gold.

It describes one playful element that I love.

For example, the key has a yellow panel with an E Ink background. Push the key into the magnetized receiver in the center console and the yellow on the key darkens, shifts and shines through the top of the sliding glass. It’s supposed to symbolize some kind of life transfer.

Wired Jeremy White pointed out a possibly indiscreet remark during Ive’s introduction.

“Part of my grumpy aggressiveness is now that I’m done working with morons,” I said in his introduction. The line drew laughter from the audience around him.

Engadget he has great photos – check them out and let us know what you think. You can also check out the Ferrari demo video below, but it doesn’t show the interior.
