Apple still plans to launch a smarter, more capable version of Siri in 2026, the company said CNBC today. Apple’s statement comes just a day after Bloomberg reported that Apple is experiencing issues with an updated version of Siri, leading to a potential delay in the feature.
Apple originally intended to launch a version of Siri with support for Apple Intelligence in the spring of 2025, but right around the expected debut in March 2025, Apple said that Siri was not ready and needed more time. Later in the year, Apple said it would launch its Siri update in 2026.
Although Apple has never given a timeline more specific than “2026”, Bloomberg said the company is working to include Siri in iOS 26.4, an update planned for spring 2026. BloombergThe latest report suggests that the Siri feature will not be ready in time to be included in iOS 26.4, so the new features could be ported to iOS 26.5 or iOS 27.
Apple may not meet its internal target of launching Siri in 2026, but since the company has never publicly stated a timing beyond 2026, there is no real delay yet. Apple has until December 2026 to launch Siri in the time frame it promised in the summer of 2025.
In June 2024, Apple introduced three new Siri features, including on-screen awareness, personal context, and the ability to do more within and between apps. Apple has since started working on additional Siri features such as image generation and a web search tool.
In Apple’s testing, Siri apparently sometimes doesn’t handle queries correctly and can take too long to respond to requests. The features don’t work as intended, so the new Siri features could expand in a few updates. We could still get one or two new Siri features in iOS 26.4, with more features expected to come in future updates planned for 2026. Several iOS 26 updates are still planned for 2026, and iOS 27 will launch in September 2026.
Apple provided CNBC with a statement as the company’s stock fell five percent today, both on rumors of a Siri delay and the FTC’s scrutiny of Apple News.
Apple is likely to release the first beta version of iOS 26.4 later this month, which will give us more information about the launch situation of Siri.
