How to Manage Notifications on macOS Tahoe 26

If your Mac’s notifications bother you, macOS Tahoe 26 includes simple settings that let you fine-tune how and when notifications appear.

If you’re like the rest of us, chances are you’re getting a little tired of the constant notifications from your devices. While this mostly happens on the iPhone, you can still get quite a few notifications on the Mac.

There aren’t too many settings to change on a Mac, but there are a few you should know about. Here’s how you can customize your notification preferences.

Choose when you want notifications to appear

Your Mac has some pretty robust setup options when to display a notification. This is great if you have a computer in your bedroom or a common room in your house, or if you don’t want sensitive information on the screen when you’re not using the computer.

  1. OPEN System settings
  2. In the sidebar, click on Notification
  3. In the section titled Notification Center adjust the settings as you like

Here you can choose when – or if – the previews are displayed. Click View previews and select from Always, When unlocked, or Never.

You can also choose whether to show notifications when the display is in sleep mode, locked, or when mirroring or sharing the display. All you have to do is toggle the appropriate option.

You can also choose whether or not to summarize the notification. To do this, you must have Apple Intelligence enabled.

How to enable and disable notifications for apps in macOS Tahoe

If you have a particularly persistent app that you’d like to silence, or any app that you’d like to start receiving notifications for, here’s how to do it.

  1. OPEN System settings
  2. In the sidebar, click on Notification
  3. In the section titled Application notification find the app for which you want to change the notification settings
  4. Switch Enable notifications on or off
  5. If this feature is turned on, you can customize other options, such as the notification style, whether it is time-dependent or if you want to see previews and notification badges.

And that’s really it. There aren’t nearly as many settings as the iPhone, but it’s still useful to turn off notifications you don’t need.
