At WWDC 2025, Apple revealed that it plans to allow CarPlay users to watch video via AirPlay in their vehicles when they’re not driving, and the first beta version of iOS 26.4 suggests that the feature may be nearing availability.

There are several new references to the CarPlay video streaming feature in the iOS 26.4 beta source code. The feature isn’t visible to users yet, but software developer Thomas Dye managed to get it working to some degree in Xcode’s CarPlay simulator on Mac and demonstrated it in a recent YouTube video (via 9 to 5 Mac).

On an iPhone connected to CarPlay, it appears that videos in any AirPlay-enabled app can be played on the car’s display. There is a button in Dynamic Island that allows you to view the video on your iPhone whenever you want.

The demo also reveals that the Apple TV app will be available on CarPlay, giving you access to shows and movies from the Apple TV streaming service and your own library. An MLS Season Pass access card is also available. However, it is not entirely clear whether the Apple TV application will actually be fully equipped in this way in the real version of CarPlay.

The simulator provides an early, if rather clunky, look at CarPlay video streaming in action. The feature will likely be available by the time iOS 26.4 is released to the general public in late March or early April, but there’s a chance it will be put on hold until iOS 26.5 or later if Apple needs more time to complete development.

Apple’s website suggests that automakers will need to implement support for CarPlay’s video features due to a safety requirement for parking the vehicle, so it may take some time for the feature to be widely rolled out.
