The iPhone 18 Pro is still well over half a year away. Still, we’ve got some interesting new color rumors for the upcoming new iPhone model, and Apple may finally be doing something users have wanted for ages — a red “Pro” iPhone. On the other hand, the iPhone Fold may not have any flashy color options.
iPhone 18 Pro in red
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is now considering a new “deep red” color option for the iPhone 18 Pro. With the iPhone 17 Pro, Apple switched to all-aluminum unibodies, which gave the company much more flexibility in what colors it could use on the “Pro” iPhone.
Gurman notes that the current Cosmic Orange color is extremely popular, especially in China — so even though red and orange are “a little too close” on the color wheel, Apple may end up keeping both colors:
Given the success of orange, I wouldn’t be surprised if the company kept that option and only added red as another option. But red and orange may be too close on the color wheel to be both. We’ll see exactly how it turns out, but I can at least tell you that as of now, red is the new flagship color in testing for the next iPhone Pro.
If you’re someone who always wanted a red iPhone Pro and bemoaned the fact that Apple stopped making red iPhones with the iPhone 14 as early as 2022 – then you should be very excited. Gurman also comments on other color rumors about purple and brown, but states that they are probably just ‘variants of the same red idea’.
New iPhone Fold colors
Gurman also comments on the color options of the upcoming iPhone Fold. He reports that Apple will ‘stay away’ from fun colors:
That would mean going back to the options Apple used in the early days of the iPhone: some kind of dark gray or black, and a variation of white or light silver. We are on track to see how it all comes together in September.
This is most likely because this is the very first production of such an Apple product and fewer colors simplify the manufacturing process. We saw a similar thing played out with the iPhone X, when it only came in two colors compared to the iPhone 7’s six.
