Apple TV’s Kaiju-sized ‘Monarch’ drone show sets new world record

Apple’s promotional drone display for “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” set a new world record by creating life-size replicas of monsters from the Apple TV show in mid-air.

The epic Apple TV Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is all about titans roaming the earth causing carnage. In its promotion for the show’s second season, Apple TV commissioned a giant drone display from Heads in the Sky to match the scale.

In a short recap video on YouTube, the Apple TV and Legendary drone display took to the skies over Los Angeles on February 20. The display used a fleet of drones to create dotted models of Godzilla, King Kong and Titan X, which will appear in the second season.

The display lasted 12 minutes and 3000 drones were used to create the visual effects. Drones covered an area about three football fields above the Hollywood Forever Cemetery, with some flying as high as 500 feet.

For comparison, Godzilla measures between 355 feet and 393 feet tall as part of the Legendary “Monsterverse” era.

As part of the promotion, the display also managed to capture the world record for the highest aerial demonstration of a fictional character made up of drones. He previously held the record for Marvel creating a giant Wolverine at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2024.

The second season of Monarch begins on February 27th and runs weekly through May 1st on Apple TV. Continuing with a weakened Monarch, the show returns to Skull Island and reveals more of the organization’s history, as well as introducing the new Titan X monster.
