Apple will begin assembling the Mac mini in the United States later this year. Foxconn will assemble the computer at its plant in Houston, Texas.

The assembled units will primarily serve local demand.

A US-made Mac mini will arrive later in 2026

Apple assembles its products, including iPhones and Macs, primarily in China, India, Vietnam and Malaysia. Mac minis are primarily assembled in Vietnam and China.

Despite the United States being one of Apple’s biggest markets, the company has historically avoided large-scale domestic assembly due to higher labor and operating costs.

Apple COO Sabih Khan confirmed plans to build the Mac mini in the US in an interview with The Wall Street Journal. The move is part of Apple’s commitment to invest up to $600 billion in the US by 2029.

As part of this, the company also promised to make 100% of iPhones and Apple Watch cover glass in the US. To achieve this, Corning is building the world’s largest smartphone glass production line at its Harrodsburg facility.

This is not a complete production effort

Local production of the Mac mini won’t dramatically change the impact of Apple’s global supply chain, but it signals an ongoing effort to diversify production and reduce over-reliance on one region. That said, the Mac mini remains a relatively niche product in Apple’s Mac lineup. It represents a smaller share of total shipments compared to the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro.

This won’t be Apple’s first attempt at manufacturing in the US. It previously assembled a Mac Pro in Austin, Texas in 2019, though that effort remained relatively limited. The upcoming Mac mini line-up looks set to follow a similar model, focusing on select configurations rather than a full production shift.

The move should help Apple offset tariff pressures, which in turn could soften the impact of higher labor and operating costs associated with U.S. assembly.
