Apple has announced plans to build some new Macs in the United States this year – 9to5Mac

Apple has announced that it plans to begin production of one of its Mac computers, the Mac mini, in the United States starting this year.

Sabih Khan, Apple’s chief operating officer, shared the development in a video interview with The Wall Street Journal.

“We’re very pleased to announce that later this year we’ll be starting production of the Mac mini right here in this space,” Khan told the paper during a tour of the Foxconn plant in Houston, Texas.

When asked how many Mac minis Apple makes each year, Khan says Apple makes “thousands every week.”

“Over time, we want to scale the Mac mini here to serve our customers in this area,” Khan says of global desktop manufacturing.

The Mac mini is currently manufactured in Vietnam and China. Apple has previously promoted the low-volume Mac Pro as Apple’s American-made desktop computer, starting in 2013 and continuing into 2019.

The video also shows never-before-seen footage inside GlobalWafers and TSMC’s facilities in Arizona.

Both the Mac mini production announcement and the WSJ piece focusing on Apple’s efforts to bring manufacturing to the US are undoubtedly timed with President Trump’s 2026 State of the Union address scheduled for Tuesday, February 24.

Apple continues to deal with increased costs associated with tariffs on imported products.
