Apple CarPlay users may soon be able to talk to their favorite AI chatbot.
According to Bloomberg, citing anonymous sources, Apple is reportedly working on how to support AI chatbot applications within CarPlay.
Apple CarPlay is an application that runs on the iPhone and communicates wirelessly with the vehicle’s infotainment system. It projects some apps found on the user’s phone onto the vehicle’s infotainment display. Drivers can interact with these apps, including Apple Music, messaging and navigation, through the Siri voice assistant.
Next-generation Apple CarPlay Ultra goes one step further, including a central touchscreen and digital dashboard located directly in front of the driver, allowing users to control certain vehicle settings.
This latest move would theoretically bring Google’s Gemini, Anthropic’s Claude and OpenAI’s ChatGPT into the car, and risk putting its own Siri assistant in the back seat.
