Apple’s March 4 media event could hold a surprise for Formula 1 racing fans — and Vision Pro owners in particular. Apple’s widely read commentary suggests the “Apple Experience” could showcase immersive F1 racing on the Vision Pro headset.
Immersive F1 racing on Vision Pro
According to John Gruber on his blog, the timing is hard to ignore Brave fireball. It offered an interesting possibility: Apple could use its Apple Experience event on March 4 to announce and possibly show off the fast and furious immersive viewing of Formula 1 on the Apple Vision Pro. That wouldn’t come out of nowhere. Apple became the exclusive US broadcast partner of Formula 1 last October, a major deal that signaled the company’s serious ambitions in live sports.
The March 4 wrinkle stems from a reader’s calendar tip. The 2026 F1 season kicks off in Melbourne, Australia on March 8 – just four days after Apple’s event, which is set for March 4 at 6 a.m. PT and will be held simultaneously in New York, London and Shanghai.
Gruber openly states that this is pure speculation rather than insider information. But he notes that the timing seems “notable” and unlikely to be pure coincidence.
Apple is already in the immersive sports game
Apple has been quietly developing its immersive sports capabilities on the Vision Pro (read our review: The M5 Vision Pro is still the ultimate entertainment device). This season, a limited set of Los Angeles Lakers games were available with immersive viewing on visionOS. This is some early evidence that Apple is committed to bringing live sports to life in a way that traditional television simply cannot match.
Immersive Video itself has been around since 2024, initially debuting with a scripted short film before expanding to include music content and select sporting events. F1 feels like a natural and spectacular next step for the format – the speed, cockpit perspective and paddock roar are exactly the kind of immersive video experience it was made for.
What Apple Said – and Didn’t Say –

Apple has created F1 racing content on Apple TV, in addition to the Oscar nomination F1: The Movie with Brad Pitt. The iPhone giant previously said more details about its F1 production plans and “new ways to enjoy F1 content” across its products would come in the coming months.
That vague promise leaves the door wide open for a March 4 announcement, though nothing is guaranteed.
Action packed either way
Even leaving the F1 angle aside, the March 4th event looks potentially significant. Observers generally expect Apple to announce several new products. They could include the iPhone 17e, MacBook Pro models with M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, the eighth-generation iPad Air, and the 12th-generation iPad. There have also been rumors of a new budget MacBook powered by the A18 chip, a refreshed Studio Display and possible updates to the Apple TV and HomePod mini.
Whether the immersive F1 shows up on March 4th or not, it looks like Apple will be bringing the full Vision Pro treatment to Formula 1 soon. It’s an exciting prospect for both Apple and racing fans.
