PRESS RELEASE
Apple is speeding up production in the US, production of the Mac mini will come later this year
The Mac mini will be manufactured in a new facility in Houston, and a training center that will open soon will support the development of advanced manufacturing skills.
CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA Apple today announced a major expansion of its Houston factory operations, bringing future Mac mini production to the US for the first time. The company will also expand advanced AI server manufacturing at the factory and provide hands-on training at its new Advanced Manufacturing Center beginning this year. Together, Apple’s Houston operations will create thousands of jobs.
“Apple is deeply committed to the future of American manufacturing, and we’re proud to significantly expand our footprint in Houston with Mac mini production beginning later this year,” said Tim Cook, Apple CEO. “We have begun shipping advanced AI servers from Houston ahead of schedule and are excited to accelerate this work even further.”
For more than two decades, users around the world have relied on the incredibly popular Mac mini for the incredible performance packed into its ultra-compact design. Its next-level AI capabilities have made it an essential tool for everyone from students and budding creatives to small business owners. Starting later this year, the Mac mini will be manufactured in a new factory at Apple’s Houston manufacturing facility, doubling the footprint of the campus.
Apple first began manufacturing advanced AI servers in Houston in 2025, and production is already ahead of schedule. Servers assembled in Houston—including logic boards manufactured on site—are used in Apple data centers around the country.
In addition to manufacturing, Apple is investing in the workforce that will drive American manufacturing forward. Later this year, Apple is set to open its 20,000-square-foot Advanced Manufacturing Center in Houston. Currently under construction, the dedicated facility will provide hands-on training in advanced manufacturing techniques to students, contractor employees and US businesses of all sizes. Apple experts will teach attendees the same innovative processes used to make Apple products, allowing American manufacturers to take their work to the next level.
Since announcing a US$600 billion commitment to the US last year, Apple and its US manufacturing program partners have already achieved several milestones:
- Apple exceeded its goal, removing more than 20 billion U.S.-made chips from 24 factories in 12 states, including those of partners such as TSMC, Broadcom and Texas Instruments.
- GlobalWafers has started production at its new $4 billion bare silicon wafer facility in Sherman, Texas. According to Apple executives, wafers made at Sherman will be used by Apple’s U.S. chip manufacturing partners, including TSMC and Texas Instruments.
- Backed by an investment from Apple, Amkor broke ground on its new $7 billion advanced semiconductor packaging and testing facility in Peoria, Arizona, where Apple will be the first and largest customer.
- Corning’s Harrodsburg, Kentucky, plant is now 100 percent dedicated to cover glass for iPhones and Apple Watches shipped worldwide, and by the end of this year, every new iPhone and Apple Watch will have cover glass made in the state.
- By 2026, Apple is on track to purchase more than 100 million advanced chips made by TSMC at its Arizona plant — a significant increase from 2025.
- Apple has opened its Apple Manufacturing Academy in Detroit, which is already supporting more than 130 small and medium-sized US manufacturers with hands-on training in AI, automation and smart manufacturing. The academy recently expanded to include new virtual programming that provides businesses across the country with on-demand access to curriculum developed by Apple experts and Michigan State University faculty.
