Apple TV Remote comes to Mac with this new free app – 9to5Mac

Apple offers an Apple TV Remote app for iPhone, iPad, and even Apple Watch — but not for Mac. So one developer created his own solution: Itsytv, a new macOS app to control your Apple TV.

Ever wanted a quick and easy way to control your Apple TV from your Mac? Developer Nick Ustinov wanted one too – so he built one.

Itsytv is a new free Mac menu bar app that lets you control playback on your Apple TV, launch apps, adjust volume, and more.

You can download Itsytv for free here.

Here’s an overview of the features via the site:

  • Native macOS: Built with Swift and SwiftUI – no Electron, no webview. It runs silently into your menu.
  • Application Launcher: Browse all installed Apple TV apps in a grid of App Store icons. Launch any application with one click.
  • Navigate using the keyboard: Arrow keys, return, spacebar, escape – control Apple TV without touching the mouse.
  • Entering text: Enter search queries and passwords on your Mac’s keyboard instead of typing letters on your TV screen.
  • Now playing: See what’s playing with album art, title, artist and a live progress bar in the menu bar.
  • Multiple devices: Pair multiple Apple TVs on a network and switch between them instantly.
  • Ensure: End-to-end encrypted communication with your Apple TV. Pairing credentials stored securely in Keychain.

Ustinov is also the developer behind Itsyhome, a Mac menu bar app for controlling HomeKit devices. If you’re a fan of Itsytv, be sure to check it out too.

Both apps are completely free, but Itsyhome offers a “Pro” purchase to support continued development.
