Apple’s new MacBook colors almost debuted with the 2022 MacBook Air

The colors in which the upcoming budget MacBook will be sold were reportedly first considered for the MacBook Air 2022, before Apple chose Silver, Starlight and Space Gray.

The budget MacBooks are currently rumored to come in blue, green and yellow. Now, in a post on Chinese social networking site Weibo, leaker Instant Digital says this isn’t the first time these colors have been worked on.

The post did not elaborate on why Apple decided not to use more colorful shades for the M2 MacBook Air. But they added that Apple’s new color lineup “looks fresh.”

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about Apple’s plans to give the M2 MacBook Air a splash of color. An October 2021 leak claimed the then-unannounced laptop would have iMac-like colors.

The leak also claimed that the bezels and keyboard of the laptop will go from black to an off-white shade. That didn’t happen either, and there’s no sign yet that a budget MacBook will offer anything similar.

Instant Digital has been regularly on the leak scene for the past few years, often correctly predicting Apple’s product plans. Previously, he correctly predicted the launch of the yellow iPhone 14 and, now, the battery specifications of the iPhone 16 Pro.

With an alternative budget

The new MacBook is expected to offer laptop buyers a cheaper alternative to budget Windows laptops and Chromebooks. That means we can expect a price between $599 and $799, according to previous reports.

Apple is expected to use the iPhone’s A18 Pro chip and a smaller display than the 13-inch MacBook Air to achieve that price. It is not known if Apple will cut other corners to further reduce costs.

In terms of timeframes, Apple will hold a media event on March 4, 2026, with the new MacBook expected to be the star of the show. A recent report suggested that Apple will announce its new products in the week before.
