Apple’s Vision Pro YouTube app is finally here, with 3D video support and more

Apple Vision Pro owners just got a new way to watch YouTube.

The YouTube app is finally available for Apple’s Vision Pro, years after Google confirmed it was “on the pipeline.”

Until now, Apple Vision Pro owners were limited to watching YouTube through the Safari web browser or using a third-party app. Now they can download the free official YouTube app from the App Store of the headphones.

Google initially seemed intent on making its website the only way to watch YouTube. The company had the Juno App Store, a third-party YouTube player, launch at the end of 2024.

Those who feared that Google would release a barebones YouTube app need not have done so. The App Store page for the new app confirms that viewers can watch everything YouTube has to offer — crucially including 3D 360 and VR180 videos.

The addition of support for VR180 content is notable and means Apple Vision Pro owners can more easily enjoy immersive content.

There are also normal 2D videos and YouTube Shorts. Even better, owners of the newer M5 Apple Vision Pro can enjoy 8K video, which offers enhanced resolution for cleaner, sharper images.

Other YouTube staples like subscriptions, playlists, and watch history information are available. Viewers will also be able to read comments and browse the video description in floating boxes above the video.

Google already said in February 2024 that it intends to bring the YouTube app to Apple’s space computer. But this new release is a surprise—and a welcome one at that.

Our two Apple Vision Pro experts, fan Wesley Hilliard and skeptic Mike Wuerthele, are taking a look at the app right now.
