Blizzard’s “Overwatch Rush” will bring the franchise to the iPhone, but players are getting something different instead of the original first-person shooter.
Despite Blizzard’s history with Apple platforms, Overwatch he avoided Mac in frustration. However, Blizzard is now planning a comeback with an iPhone game that will take things in a different direction.
Overwatch Rush is an in-development title that Blizzard describes as a completely new game made for mobile. Instead of a first-person shooter, it’s a “top-down hero shooter”.
For gamers, the main difference is the viewing angle. Instead of working in a first-person perspective, players instead get a bird’s-eye view, similar to team-based games League of Legends.
While there are first-person shooters on the iPhone, the change in gameplay should make the primarily touchscreen-based work easier.
The initial video released in the announcement shows it fairly well developed Overwatch– a themed game with a change of perspective. However, it is far from being released and is characterized as “early days” in the development process.
While development continues, Blizzard has asked interested players to head over to the official Discord server for updates ahead of limited game testing.
Back to Apple
Blizzard has a fairly good history of releasing their earlier releases on the Mac. Classic titles included Warcraft and Diablo were available across platforms, but support declined in later years.
thought Overwatch is not a macOS game, although it appeared on PC and consoles, there was a hint that it should be released in 2017. However, this did not happen.
However, Blizzard hasn’t completely given up on Apple hardware. Hearthstone is still a popular title played on iPad and iPhone.
WITH Overwatch Rushexpands its Apple directory a bit more, just not on the Mac.
The release date is not yet clear. We’ve heard the shooter will be free-to-play with in-app purchases, but the company hasn’t confirmed that.
