If you have one of Apple’s displays, you’ve either spent a lot of money on a mediocre camera, or even more money on no camera at all. You might also have a USB webcam, but for most of us, the nicest camera we have is the one we carry in our pockets: our iPhone.

The Belkin MagSafe display mount is located on top of the monitor. When a meeting is coming up, stick your iPhone and let Continuity Camera do the rest. (Or, if you want to go a step further, use the cool Camo app.)

If the puck bothers you when you’re not using it, simply fold it away.

One size fits all

The Belkin mount doesn’t need a specially mounted clip – it stays in place with an adjustable foot that provides tension on the display. In this way, it goes with basically anything. If you want, you can even lower your leg and put it on the CRT monitor.

I was worried that since my display (LG 24UD58-B) is curved along the top edge, unlike Apple’s square displays, it wouldn’t have enough of an edge to hold it in place. Not so; fits perfectly securely.

One might also worry that a large phone like the iPhone 14 Pro Max with a bulky case will be heavy enough to drop until it drops. I only have the 12 Pro, no case, but I haven’t noticed this happening.

Even so, it only takes a few seconds to remove, fold the foot and put it back on for a “reset”.

Deploy and complete

You can easily leave the Belkin mount on your display 24/7, but if you prefer, you can fold it flat and stick it in your bag. (Who travels with a desktop monitor? I learned not to ask such questions.)

I have no reason to take it off the display, but I find myself holding it all the time because I feel it so damn nice in my hand The MagSafe puck is metal with a smooth and slightly shimmering lacquer. It snaps into place with a strong, confident click. The blade has a solid rubberized surface.

It warms my heart that such a simple product — this monorail — puts so much care, attention to detail, and love into its design. It can’t be cheap to do it this way, but I like that Belkin has it.

Final thoughts

Almost anyone with a Mac and a desktop display will use this product. Even with laptops, if you’re having a virtual meeting, you don’t want to use a crappy MacBook camera that’s sitting on the side of your desk.
