Kohler’s new shower reuses dirty water to clean you

Kohler claims its new Anthem EvoCycle smart shower system can deliver “up to 80% water savings” without using shower heads that limit flow or pressure. Instead, the system relies on a tank at the base of the shower to collect used water and pass it through a filter system before sending it back up through the shower head. Pricing starts at $7,500, or $5,625 with discounts, but you’ll need to purchase the $825 water tank base and accessories separately.

The Anthem EvoCycle Recirculation System starts with “Standard Mode” where only fresh water is delivered by the hand shower and collected in a tank. Switching to “cycle mode” mixes half a gallon of this fresh water with dirty used water, which is sent through a closed filtration system before being pumped into the shower head. Not only does the system reduce water use, it can also potentially reduce energy use by using less of the hot water heater.

Anthem EvoCycle will need access to power for the pump, as well as its digital controller that connects to your smart home and a mobile app for remote control. You just need to make sure your bathroom will fit the pump system, which requires a 4.5 inch deep hole in the floor.
