As expected, electric vehicle manufacturer Rivian today released an Apple Watch app that provides R1S and R1T drivers with convenient functions on their wrists.
The app lets you select up to four controls with one tap to lock or unlock the doors, open or close the windows, open the front or rear trunk, sound the vehicle alarm, and more. In addition, you can rotate the Apple Watch digital crown in the app to adjust the vehicle cabin temperature and battery charging target.
Rivian also offers an Apple Watch complication that lets you see your vehicle’s charge level just by looking at the dial.
Rivian recently introduced Apple Wallet support for car keys for its second-generation R1S and R1T cars. This feature uses Ultra Wideband technology that allows you to simply approach the vehicle, open the door and start the vehicle, all with your iPhone in your pocket or bag or your Apple Watch on your wrist.

Passive input requires iPhone 11 or later (except iPhone SE and iPhone 16e) or Apple Watch Series 6 or later.
If you have a first generation R1S or R1T, the function of the digital key is a bit more limited. You can lock or unlock the vehicle by tapping the “lock” button in the app. “With the app open, you’re ready to drive,” Rivian says of these models.
To get the Apple Watch app, go to the App Store and install the latest version of the Rivian iPhone app, which will extend to the Apple Watch.
