Yesterday, Apple announced a “special experience” for March 4th at 9:00 a.m. ET and invited journalists to New York, London and Shanghai.
The question right now is what format this “special experience” and related product announcements will take.
John Gruber suggested the following idea as part of the “spitball” in a post on Brave fireball tonight:
It strikes me that March 4th – the “experience” day – is a Wednesday. So my spitball guess is that they’re announcing all of these products through Newsroom press releases, day in and day out. For example, iPhone 17e on Monday, new iPads on Tuesday and new MacBooks on Wednesday. And then the “experience” will be a practical thing with personal demonstrations. Spread the announcement out over a few days, but then host in-person events for members of the media to experience first-hand, station by station, without having to produce the main Apple Event movie.
Shortly after this story was published, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said on social media, “Gruber’s spitball estimate is exactly what I expect based on what I’ve heard.”
According to Gurman, there will also be no “real keynote” part of this product.
While it’s certainly possible (likely, even) that Apple will release short stand-alone videos for some of these announcements, it looks like there won’t be a traditional live stream of any kind for people to watch from home.
Here are rumors of products coming soon from Apple that could be announced in the week of March 2nd:
Whatever the format of Apple’s announcements, and whatever those announcements are, I’ll be in New York on behalf of 9to5Mac to provide coverage. Stay tuned.
