Speculation that Apple’s March event could include immersive F1 on the Vision Pro

Apple commentator John Gruber spits again. After hinting that a series of new product announcements via press releases may precede the special event on March 4th, he now has another idea.

Based on a reader who alerted him to the timing, he suggests that the next announcement could be immersive F1 viewing on Vision Pro…

Immersive viewing on Vision Pro

Apple Immersive Video first launched in 2024 with a scripted short film. At the time, the company said it would release immersive content for a number of music videos, concerts and sporting events in the future, including NBA All-Star Weekend.

Apple announced last year that it would offer Vision Pro users immersive feeds for select Los Angeles Lakers games, with the feature subsequently launching last month.

Engrossing speculation about F1

Gruber is now wondering if an immersive Formula 1 video could also be announced at the upcoming Apple event.

A reader pointed out that the 2026 Formula 1 season starts in Australia on March 8. You’ll recall from October that Apple TV is now the exclusive broadcast partner for F1 in the U.S. Apple is already dabbling in live immersive sports coverage for VisionOS this season with a limited lineup of Lakers games. If they have something planned for streaming F1 races live on Vision Pro, with some level of immersion, March 4th would be a pretty good date to showcase the experience to the media.

He makes it clear that this is just speculation and the timing could just be a coincidence.

We’d certainly underline this point, but it seems almost certain that immersive video Vision Pro will come to F1 at some stage. The question is not if, but when.
