The Greyhound sequel enters production in Australia

Apple TV is moving forward with its sequel to “Greyhound,” the Tom Hanks naval drama set to expand its scope from its single Atlantic crossing to both the D-Day landings and the Pacific theater.

The film, which does not have a release date this time, is currently in production in Australia. Tom Hanks is writing the film and will return to reprise his role as United States Navy Commander Ernest Krause.

The sequel expands beyond the Atlantean setting of the first film, taking viewers from the beaches of Normandy to battles in the Pacific theater.

Period notes that Stephen Graham will reprise his role as navigator Cole. Also returning is Elisabeth Shue.

New to the cast is Jack Patten, known for his starring role in the Amazon series “Robin Hood”.

Based on CS Forester’s 1955 novel The Good Shepherd, “Greyhound” was originally scheduled for a June 2020 theatrical release. However, after the COVID-19 pandemic forced theaters to close, Sony, the original distribution company, sold the rights to Apple TV.

Other than just recognition from two US Navy vets AppleInsider crew, the film would go on to set viewership records for Apple’s then-nascent streaming service. Success would see Apple investing in more blockbuster-style films.
