Apple’s new iPhone 16 series boasts a major charging upgrade that Apple didn’t even mention when it unveiled its new flagship earlier this week.
Apple’s iPhone 16 was unveiled on Tuesday, packed with a new A18 processor lineup, a new camera control button, new colors, major camera improvements, and Wi-Fi 7 across the board.
Apple has also introduced a significant increase in battery life across the range, but one charging upgrade it didn’t mention comes via faster cable connections. The iPhone 16 series has been revealed to support 45W USB-C charging across the board. This is a big increase over the 29W supported by the previous generation.
A big iPhone 16 charging upgrade
The news spotted by ShrimpApplePro on the X is exciting for potential iPhone owners for two reasons. Not only is this a big jump on current wired charging speeds, allowing you to charge your phone faster than ever before, but it’s also rare to see upgrades as strong as this applied to the entire range. We expected the iPhone 16 Pro to support faster charging, so the revelation that all four phones are getting the upgrade is great news.
Likewise, Apple has boosted MagSafe charging with the iPhone 16. Each model now supports charging up to 25W via MagSafe, compared to 15W on previous-generation models. Coupled with a big increase in battery life, iPhone 16 users can expect their phones to last longer day-to-day and to take less time to charge when they run out of juice.
Another major reason for the more energy-efficient performance is the arrival of the new A18 chip, which uses much less power at similar speeds compared to the previous A17 Pro in the iPhone 15 Pro and A16 in the iPhone 15.
iPhone 16 pre-orders start on Friday, with prices across the range the same as last year’s models.
