The new Apple Home products could include two unexpected additions: a report

Rumors suggest that Apple has big plans for the new smart home, with several new home products and accessories launching next year. And according to a new report, two more Home products are in the works.

A new third-generation HomePod and accessories for internal sensors are said to be in development

Today, Mark Gurman reported on three upcoming wearables with artificial intelligence that Apple is working on. But at the end of the report there is a mention of the upcoming extended line of new Home products.

Mark Gurman writes at Bloomberg:

In addition to wearables, Apple is developing a range of AI devices for the home. The lineup includes a smart display built on the company’s upcoming Siri redesign and a later version with a larger screen and a robotic arm. The company is also working on an updated HomePod speaker and a compact indoor sensor for home security and automation.

We’ve already heard a lot about a smart display product that could be called HomePad or HomePod Touch. And the higher version with the robotic arm was similarly well covered.

These join the expected updates coming soon for the Apple TV 4K and HomePod mini 2, and the rumored security camera and doorbell products.

However, Gurman’s last sentence mentions two products that haven’t been talked about much before:

  • “updated HomePod speaker”
  • “Compact indoor sensor for home security and automation”
The new HomePod

It’s possible that the first one is just a reference to the new HomePod mini. However, in previous reports, Gurman has always been clear when talking about Apple’s smaller HomePod product. As a result, he appears to be saying that a new third-generation HomePod is in the works.

The indoor sensor makes sense as the next addition to the home product line, especially as the company plans to expand into accessories like doorbells and home cameras.

It sounds like there could be first-party smart home accessories in a variety of new categories before too long.
