Wispr Flow Launches AI Dictation Android App | TechCrunch

Artificial intelligence dictation startup Wispr Flow launched its Android app today. The company first released its app for Mac and Windows, before launching on iOS in June 2025.

On iOS, users could use Wispr Flow through a dedicated keyboard. On Android, the interface is a bit different, as you access the dictionary via a floating bubble. You can hold the bubble and dictate, or press once to start and then press Close to stop the process. As on other platforms, in addition to dictation, the application cleans filter words and also formats the text based on the context of the application and the spoken content.

“Android has finally given us the freedom to create the voice experiences we’ve always wanted. Only when the platform gets out of the way can we really expect voice to replace typing on mobile,” said Tanay Kothari, the startup’s co-founder and CEO.

The application can support translation into more than 100 languages and can work in other applications. Along with the release of the Android app, Wispr Flow said it has done an infrastructure rewrite that makes dictation 30% faster than before.

While there are plenty of AI dictation apps available on desktop and iOS, Wispr Flow is one of the few available for Android with this launch, aside from Typeless, which launched an app for the platform last month.

What’s more, the company has also released a new model for Hinglish, a mixture of Hindi and English, for mixed-speaking people in India.

“If you’re anything like me, English and Hindi intertwine when I’m chatting with family and colleagues at home. This is one of those moments where I just had to make something: the first voice model that actually supports Hinglish transcription instead of the traditional Hindi script,” Kothari said.

The company noted that despite the early rollout for select users, users have spoken more than 1.3 million words in the past few days.

Wispr Flow is one of the most popular startups in the AI dictation app category, which is also attracting significant venture capital attention. In June, the startup raised $30 million in funding led by Menlo Ventures in June. Within months, in November, the company secured $25 million in a round led by Notable Capital. Wispr Flow has raised a total of $81 million, with its latest round valued at $700 million, according to sources.
