Xbox shakeup: Phil Spencer and Sarah Bond are leaving Microsoft

After nearly 40 years at Microsoft, Xbox boss and Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer is leaving the company, along with Xbox president Sarah Bond. Spencer’s retirement was announced on February 20 in a statement from Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, stating, “Last year, Phil Spencer decided to leave the company, and we have been talking about succession planning ever since.”

Last summer, Microsoft responded to rumors of Spencer’s retirement by saying at the time that he “will not be retiring anytime soon.” Microsoft’s President of CoreAI, Asha Sharma, will move into Spencer’s former role as CEO of Microsoft Gaming, while Matt Booty will be promoted to EVP and Chief Content Officer.
