YouTube Music starts putting lyrics behind a paywall

Free YouTube Music accounts now have limited access to lyrics, according to several reports. Google began testing Texts as an exclusive feature for Premium users in September, but it appears it’s now getting a wider rollout. It appears that free users will be limited to viewing lyrics for five songs per month, though we’ve asked Google to confirm.

Once this limit is reached, users will only see the first few lines. Everything behind that will be blurred out and they will be prompted to “Unlock lyrics with Premium”. A banner alerting the user to the limited number of text views remaining is prominently displayed when the tab is opened, along with a countdown.
